It was in the late-70s (78? 79?) that Marcus and Jacques Babineaux came to the gypsy camp on the outskirts of New Orleans looking for Timbo Kennick. They had a proposition for him, a job offer in New Orleans itself. Kennick was uncertain about the offer, but it was not just an opportunity for him but for the whole clan to help with the problems that were going on. His connection was proven by the fact that he had a brand that had appeared on his body within the past week when the previous cleanser had died during his work.

In the end it was a case of “If you take some of our blood you leave some of your blood” and Marcus consented to sleep with Tsura Stochelo. While Tsura and Marcus were having sex there was a scuffle in the camp and Jacques was badly hurt, when he was carried off to be tended to his body disappeared, despite the fact that the medic was firmly convinced he was dead.

Marcus didn't seem too phased at the prospect of his brother's death (considering his brother was a “double” that he can project and dismiss at will).

Kennick and his wife still agreed to leave with him and made their home in New Orleans itself.

Mags mother is sired on Tsura Stochelo by Marcus Babineaux.

Babineaux, the other pillars and the Watch had Timbo Kennick working as a cleanser for them. The trauma of the work, perhaps combined with the lack of watching eyes from the gypsies he becomes rather cruel and violent. After he beats Tasaria so badly that she goes into early labor and loses her child she returns to the gypsy camp and then files for divorce. (mid 80s)

He changes his name to Etienne and within a year is married to Madeline Ripley.

They have several still born children and several miscarriages due to Etienne's abuse until Garriden is born in the early 90s (92 or 93).

Around 8 or 9 Garriden winds up in foster care after a domestic disturbance at the Kennick household winds up with both of his parents arrested. He's only in care for a couple of months then, given neither parent presses charges against the other. Once DCF determines things are “okay” he's returned to them. (2001?)

He gets in trouble at school several times for acting out. There are a several more incidents of the police being called to the Kennick family home, during this time he first meets then Officer Killean Mulloy.

In middle school he quickly relates with other “deviant and troubled kids” his parents don't really come to parents evenings or bother with answering calls from the school.

2005 Hurricane Katrina – this is something to do with a big issue with that round of Pillars and his father is involved with it as is Stephenson but he really doesn't know any of the details not really giving a shit because of his age.

He has more trouble with the police when caught trespassing places, a few instances of shoplifting and then caught joyriding with some high school kids in 8^th grade. (2006?)

There's more incidents interspersed in high school. Where he has a few more incidents with Mulloy. There is at one point an incident of arrest for possession (pot) and there's underage alcohol use with friends and use of other drugs as well. His mother descends deeper into drug use of her own often disappearing for weeks with people who are not his father.

His mother returns home completely wasted one evening and she and his father get into a fight and Garriden steps in and kills Etienne. The “to cleanse” brand appears on the back of his left shoulder. The Watch move the body and clean up the scene before the police get there Mulloy is fairly convinced that Garriden had something to do with things but there's not enough evidence to prove anything other than there was a domestic disturbance.

Garriden drops out of school and leaves the city. Junior year of high school. Sixteen years old. (2008) (dice confirmed 14/100).

Etienne's body is found a week or so later in the swamp.

Due to “poor life and job decisions” on his way up North, over the next 3-4 years he winds up arrested and the imprisoned in Centralia Correctional Facility in Illinois where he undergoes their detox program and is then transferred to Greenville Prison for at least a year where he's finishing his education and working in their electrical engineering program.

So, 2012 he's randomly assigned a transfer back to Centralia which is co-opted by the Watch to bring him back to New Orleans with a short stopover in Kentucky on the way home to “cleanse” a guy who is blighting animals and crops.
